Love was definitely in the air in Brisbane today, with a record number of couples choosing Valentine’s Day to tie the knot in the city’s registry.
Queensland Attorney-General Deb Frecklington said 31 couples will be married at the Brisbane Registry today, more than double the previous record.
Attorney-General Frecklington said February was shaping up as the biggest ever for the Registry, with weddings across the month set to top 200 for the first time.
“Six celebrants will officiate at 31 wedding ceremonies, making it the busiest Valentine’s Day in the history of Queensland’s Registry of Birth, Deaths and Marriages,” she said.
“18 ceremonies will be conducted on the panoramic 32nd floor of the ‘180 Brisbane’ building on Ann Street in the CBD, while the other 13 will be held at Brisbane Powerhouse.”
Attorney-General Frecklington said the previous record for Valentine’s Day weddings at the Brisbane Registry was 16 in 2021 and the last time February 14 fell on a Friday was during the height of Covid in 2020, when 16 ceremonies were also conducted.
“The Registry is also in the middle of its biggest-ever February for in-house nuptials, with 201 couples preparing to say ‘I Do’ this month.
“The massive surge of bookings follows a record-setting 172 weddings that were conducted in January.”
She said the record-breaking start to 2025 was testament to the high level of service the Brisbane Registry provided couples.
“With Valentine’s Day falling on a Friday, loved-up couples have really taken advantage of the date for their special day.
“The Brisbane Registry staff and celebrants deliver an outstanding service at a very affordable price, especially when so many people are looking at ways to save.“

- Couples can contact the Brisbane Registry via the website to secure their preferred date before they attend an interview. The Brisbane Registry will collaborate with them on processing the required documentation and interview process.
- Costs range from around $380 to $660, depending on the day of the week.
- Australian law requires that a couple must lodge their Notice of Intended Marriage at least one calendar month before the date they intend to be married.
