The BESIX Watpac and John Holland consortium has been named as the preferred construction contractor to build the new Brisbane Stadium at Victoria Park.
The companies have previously delivered stadium structures such as Suncorp Stadium, the Gabba and Queensland Country Bank Stadium.
John Holland has also built the MCG Great Southern Stand, Marvel Stadium, Sydney Football Stadium and Penrith Stadium.
Queensland’s Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) announced today BESIX Watpac and John Holland would now move into the next stage of Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) process.
They will work with GIICA and the stadium’s design team to finalise design detail and construction methodology.
This process will be finalised for work to start in 2027.
The international process to find a preferred contractor started in October last year, and narrowed to a shortlist in April this year.
Brisbane Stadium in Victoria Park will host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies and athletics.
After the Games, the stadium will become home ground for the Brisbane Lions AFL team and cricket’s Brisbane Heat and Queensland Bulls.
It will have a concert capacity of 70,000, allowing it to also attract international acts and major events.
Design for the stadium is progressing through Principal Architects COX, Hassell and Azusa Sekkeia and early works on the site are being carried out by contractor BMD.
