Camel jockey Emily Sansom will race 4000km in an epic journey across the Queensland Outback Camel Trail, bringing her children along for the ride.
Ms Samson is a second-generation cameleer who has been racing camels since she was 14 at her family’s Oakfield Ranch in Newcastle.
The 33 year-old said she’s had a few “elegant dismounts” over the years.
“Camel racing is in my blood,” Ms Sansom said.
“It’s an ancient sport, and our camels genuinely love what they do.
“At the moment, Polished Copper is the hot tip – he’s running really well and is a real powerhouse on the track.”
She will be joined by her camel-loving children, six-year-old Cooper and 10-year-old Abby.
The month-long celebration of racing, music, markets and community will take place from July 5 to 26.
The trek runs from Newcastle through South Australia, and into the beating heart of Outback Queensland – from Jundah to Birdsville, Bedourie to Boulia, and on to Winton.
