It’s time to dust of your lederhosen, chill your beer stein and slap your thighs because it’s Oktoberfest time.
Oktoberfest dates back to 1810 when the marriage of then Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese was celebrated with a public festival and horse races.
This year the traditional celebration has already begun in Munich, but in Brisbane the largest event is on Saturday October 11 from 1pm to 9pm at the Brisbane Showgrounds.
There will be authentic German food and drink, with live entertainment, roving performers, and competitions.
The Rave Cave is a new activity inspired by the famous Berghain nightclub in Berlin and other European festivals like Tomorrowland.

The Brisbane German Club will also be hosting Oktoberfest celebrations every weekend in October with live entertainment, games and a pop-up store selling traditional German attire.
First-release tickets include entry and access to the club, a commemorative half-litre glass stein, and the first fill of that stein with any tap bier or soft drink.
