Glasses designed to help people with moderate hearing loss are now available in Australia.
Nuance Audio said the glasses had been registered with the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
They provide a “one-of-a-kind invisible open-ear hearing solution for perceived mild to moderate hearing loss”.
The glasses use directional microphones and open-ear speakers that are integrated into the frames.
In a statement, the company said Nuance Audio Glasses combined advanced audio engineering with smart‑eyewear design to help hearing-challenged adults engage in conversations.
It said around 5.86 million people in Australia were living with mild to moderate hearing loss.
“Difficulties with hearing, particularly in noisy environments, are among the most common and undertreated sensory challenges in adults,” the company said.
“Even people with mild or minimal hearing loss often experience substantial difficulty understanding speech in complex acoustic scenarios, such as restaurants, workplaces or social gatherings.”
It said research also indicated that long term, untreated hearing loss could be linked to social withdrawal, reduced quality of life, increased cognitive load, social isolation and increased risk of depression.
Nuance Audio Glasses have a wireless charging pad and USB-C charging cable.
