Global sports design superstars Populous have been appointed Principal Architects of the new Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre slated as a venue for the 2032 Games.

The firm has designed venues for 14 Olympic and Paralympic Games, including Sydney 2000, London 2012, and Paris 2024.

Locally, they were responsible for the Suncorp Stadium redevelopment in 2003, Gold Coast’s Cbus Super and People First stadiums, the Queensland Tennis Centre and the Brisbane Broncos and Lions training headquarters.

The new Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre will hold 10,000 spectators and feature 12 multi-use indoor courts designed to support growing demand for activities including basketball, netball, volleyball, futsal, pickleball, and wheelchair rugby.

The centre has the potential to host major sporting events, entertainment, and community activities, while continuing to serve local clubs, schools, and community groups beyond 2032.

It will also include a café, athlete amenities, and outdoor green space.

Populous’ concept focuses on capturing breezes and light, as well as complementing the indoor activity with outdoor spaces to gather, play, and celebrate.

The venue will be owned and operated by the Moreton Bay Council, with early works already commencing. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2027.

Populous Principal and Lead Architect Brayden Goodwin said the Centre had been designed to serve the community well beyond the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
