Christmas may be officially celebrated in December, but the decorating trends you’ll see in the shops and on your tree at home, start in February at the Christmasworld Fair in Frankfurt.
The world’s largest international Christmas trade show, Christmasworld showcased three stand-out decorating trends for 2026.
This year’s theme of “modern fairytales” featured a walk through an enchanted forest, where light filtered softly through the tree-tops, colours took on a mysterious quality, and patterns and repurposed materials created a vibrant visual display.
Trend expert Claudia Herke from Stilbüro bora.herke.palmisano said the three trends were united by a shared responsibility, a connection with nature, and future optimism.
The first trend dubbed “Brave” featured craft-based digital technologies with unconventional artistic results.
“Copper in all its shades takes the lead, forming a bridge to rich colours that craft insightful narratives. Red and violet stand alongside their softer counterparts, generating a positive tension,” the Christmasworld Trends 26+ report said.
The second trend is an essential Christmas ingredient – “Light” which is dominated by matte silver, misty pastels, and darker, natural earthy shades.
Lastly, “Solid” looks at geometric and modular sustainable product design with minimal environmental impact.
“White as a neutral, together with cool, pure-looking colours, conveys its own unique message,” the report said. “Vivid saturations alternate with metallic elements such as steel or aluminium.
