The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) has extended a local fire ban to cover the entire South-East Queensland region for at least the next week.
Yesterday, the QFD put in place a fire ban for residents in the Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Ipswich, Logan and Scenic Rim Local Government Areas.
In a statement today (September 30) the fire authority added Brisbane, Noosa, Moreton Bay, Redland, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast to the list.
It stated the local fire ban would be in place until midnight on Tuesday, October 7.
“Current fire conditions are perfect for bushfires to ignite and spread quickly.”
The QFD stated under a local fire ban all open fires were prohibited and all Permits to Light Fire which had been issued in the designated area had been suspended for the duration of the ban.
“Power tools may be used during a local fire ban, however, QFD encourages people to use these with extreme care and ensure adequate equipment is available to extinguish any fire which may start.
“This may include having a person available to watch out for any ignitions that occur.”
The QFD also has announced a fire ban for residents in the Toowoomba, Southern Downs, Western Downs and Goondiwindi Local Government Areas from Wednesday, October 1, until midnight, Sunday October 5.
