More than a dozen United States clean technology companies are in Australia this week scoping investment opportunities in the sector.

Federal Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen said the 13-strong group was part of the Australia-America Clean Industry Delegation which aimed to advance a Government commitment to create a global hub for clean energy generation and manufacturing, following Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s visit to New York earlier this year.

“Australia has a wealth of natural resources, a highly skilled workforce, and a clear government agenda, highlighted by our emissions reduction sector plans, to position the nation as a premier destination for global investment,” Minister Bowen said.

He said to support these discussions the Government had released an Investment Blueprint, to accompany Australia’s 2035 Target.

“The Investment Blueprint responds to growing calls internationally that climate targets be investable, and that nations set out plans to provide greater certainty for investors.”

Minister Bowen said the Blueprint emphasised Australia’s position as an attractive and stable investment destination, with the 2035 Target and six sector plans laying the groundwork for long-term investment decision making.

He said foreign investment would help Australia reach its economic potential by providing capital to finance new industries and enhance existing industries, boosting infrastructure and productivity and creating employment opportunities in the regions.

“Over three days, the Australia-America Clean Industry Delegation will meet with senior ministers, government finance bodies, and private investors to explore clean energy opportunities in Australia.”
