A major town centre and resort development at North Lakes, north of Brisbane, has been given the green light.

The Comiskey Group announced this week that it had secured approval for the 25,000sqm mega development.

It said the project would  deliver an experience comparable to lifestyle precincts like James St in Fortitude Valley, Gasworks in Newstead and West Village in West End.

It will feature five-star accommodation, dining, entertainment, wellness and retail.

“North Lakes Town Centre will transform a prominent 1.72-hectare site into an approximately 25,000sqm premium lifestyle destination,” Comiskey said in a statement.

“(It will bring) together a 144-room five-star hotel, signature hospitality, premium and casual dining, retail, wellness, entertainment and expansive landscaped public spaces.”

The epicentre of the development will be a 144-room, nine-storey five-star hotel, styled as an “urban resort”.

Comiskey Group Director Rob Comiskey said the approval of the development marked a major milestone for a project designed to change the way people experience North Lakes.

“We see this as something genuinely different for North Lakes and for Moreton Bay,” he said.

“There isn’t currently a destination of this scale or this calibre in the area bringing all of these experiences together. “

“We’ve deliberately moved away from the traditional shopping centre model. This is about creating somewhere people actually want to spend time, whether that’s staying in the hotel, going out for dinner, meeting friends, enjoying entertainment, exercising or simply spending time in the public spaces.”

Construction is expected to start in early 2027. The concept was developed by architects Bureau Proberts.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said the area was quickly cementing its reputation as one of Australia’s leading hotel and tourism investment destinations.

“City of Moreton Bay is proving to be a genuine hotspot for hotel and hospitality investment, and this significant commitment by local Comiskey Group is another strong vote of confidence in our growing visitor economy and the enormous opportunities our city presents,” he said.

Leasing opportunities are now open for retailers, restaurateurs, wellness operators, entertainment businesses and commercial tenants.
