McCullough Robertson Lawyers (McR) has won the Pro Bono Team of the Year Award at the 2025 Queensland Law Society Excellence in Law Awards, announced on the weekend.

This award recognises the collective effort of the McR team in delivering impactful pro bono support to the community.

McR Pro Bono Partner, Tim Longwill, said the firm was honoured to receive the recognition of its pro bono efforts.

“We are proud and humbled to be named the Pro Bono Team of the Year, especially in the company of such esteemed finalists,” he said.

“This recognition reflects the collective effort of many across our firm who are committed to delivering meaningful pro bono support across Queensland and beyond.

“It also acknowledges the strength of our long-standing Community Partnerships Program and the dedication of our lawyers to using their skills to help those most in need.”

Mr Longwill has described the firm’s pro bono program as an “expression of our values of generosity, commitment and being down to earth”.

He endorsed the call made by Amber Buckland from Legal Aid Queensland and Nadia Bromley from the Womens’ Legal Service that the legal profession continues to strive to provide greater access to justice for all in the community.  He reminded practitioners that doing pro bono work was a very direct way to provide access and make a difference.

“It also provides opportunities for our staff to broaden their experience and give back to those in need, which our people really value,” he said.

For almost 100 years, McR has been working with community legal clinics, not-for-profit organisations and sector leaders across areas including community housing, health, the arts, education and diversity.

“As we approach our centenary milestone in 2026, we remain focused on furthering our impact and will mark the occasion with a project aimed at contributing to a sector in dire need of support,” Mr Longwill said.

“This initiative reflects our belief that even the smallest act of support can help generate momentum towards lasting change.”
