A new development agreement under The Spit Master Plan on the Gold Coast has been approved.
Queensland Deputy Premier and State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Minister Jarrod Bleijie said Ignite Projects had been awarded the development rights for a $100 million mixed-use residential development.
Deputy Premier Bleijie said Southern Gateway was the third development agreement reached under The Spit Master Plan, which was releasing undeveloped land for new development opportunities.
He said Gordon Corporation‘s Mantaray project was currently under construction while Peter’s Fish Market had secured development approval and would commence early works shortly, prior to construction commencement later in the year.
Deputy Premier Bleijie said the Ignite Projects’ development would include 27 residential apartments with food and drink outlets and a commercial marina with up to 18 berths.
“The community will benefit from $2.7 million in public realm upgrades, with adjoining land to be transformed into public parkland, including pedestrian and cyclist connections, public car parking and playground, turning this gateway to The Spit into a public and welcoming place to enjoy the Broadwater.”
Ignite Projects founder and director Josh Foote said the Southern Gateway would showcase a contemporary design by Contreras Earl Architects.
“Ignite Projects has a strong track record of delivering award-winning residential projects on the Gold Coast, and we are proud to bring that experience to this iconic and well-loved location,” Mr Foote said.
“Our vision is for a sophisticated residential and retail precinct that provides vibrant public spaces and complements the natural beauty of the area, with lush greenery and nature-inspired design features.
“This project is an exciting opportunity to play our part in enhancing The Spit, and we look forward to commencing construction in 2026.”
