A robot, described as “the world’s first consumer-ready humanoid robot designed to transform life at home”, is poised to become a part of everyday households.

The 1X company has announced that NEO is available to consumers in 2026.

It says NEO automates everyday chores and offers personalised assistance to households.

“With intuitive, user-friendly features and a revolutionary hardware platform, NEO is the safest, most affordable, and most capable humanoid on earth,” 1X CEO and Founder Bernt Børnich said in a statement.

“NEO brings the science-fiction idea of robots from the movie screen into reality – creating space for us to enjoy our time at home, instead of coming home just to do more work.”

Mr Børnich said NEO “closed the gap between our imaginations and the world we live in” and meant humans could now successfully ask a humanoid robot for help.

According to the company, NEO can fold laundry, organise shelves, tidy spaces and open doors for guests.

“The core of the NEO experience is driven by AI,” Mr Børnich said.

“Each NEO will be able to have conversations, and navigate around the home to provide help where needed.

“NEO will arrive to early owners with the ability to handle basic tasks, and with continued use, learn and develop new skills.”

NEO is being sold for $US20,000 or a subscription model of $499 per month.
