The procurement process is underway to transform Brisbane’s iconic Gabba stadium and the neighbouring former GoPrint site, in the city’s inner-south.

Deputy Premier and State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Minister Jarrod Bleijie said a Request for Expression of Interest and Information Memorandum had been released for the development of the Gabba Entertainment Precinct, marking a major milestone in the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games legacy and urban transformation.

Deputy Premier Bleijie said this signalled the start of the competitive market process and the private sector was invited to submit proposals for the delivery of a globally recognised destination for entertainment, sport and new housing.

“Anchored by a new indoor arena – delivering more housing, retail and public spaces and supported by integrated transport infrastructure – the precinct will redefine how Brisbane hosts major events, concerts and sporting fixtures, while unlocking new housing and investment opportunities in one of the city’s most connected locations,” he said.

Deputy Premier Bleijie said the transformative project would position Woolloongabba as a dynamic cultural, residential and community epicentre, ensuring its legacy lived on well beyond the 2032 Games.

The procurement announcement came the same day as an amended Woolloongabba Priority Development Area (PDA) Development Scheme, which incorporates the new Gabba entertainment precinct, was approved.

Deputy Premier Bleijie said the green light would fast-track the delivery of up to 16,000 homes in the Gabba Entertainment Precinct, securing a plan for Woolloongabba long-term.

He said the Woolloongabba PDA Development Scheme capitalised on the area’s proximity to the Brisbane CBD, Kangaroo Point, Southbank, major hospitals and the new Cross River Rail station.

“This plan will accelerate the delivery of up to 16,000 new homes and reduce the end cost of a home by removing unnecessary red tape and increasing flexibility.

“Industry has told us repeatedly that it can deliver more housing in Woolloongabba by removing onerous conditions and better responding to market constraints.

“This plan will support a more flexible, performance-based approach to housing and infrastructure delivery that is in step with the area’s growth – delivering the right infrastructure, at the right times in line with local needs.”

Deputy Premier Bleijie said the Request for Expression of Interest for the Gabba Entertainment Precinct would remain open until January 12, 2026, with proponents needing to register via VendorPanel to access procurement documentation.
