As Brisbane prepares to feel the force of Tropical Cyclone Alfred, the Queensland capital this morning is a ghost town.

A walk through areas usually bustling with pre-work joggers and cyclists shows little or no activity as locals heed Government advice to stay home and bunker down. (SEE PHOTOS BELOW).

The latest Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) tracking shows Cyclone Alfred crossing between Moreton Island and North Stradbroke Island late Friday night as a category 2 or category 1 system and moving across the northern suburbs of Brisbane as a low through Saturday morning.

Brisbane local Graeme Wilson said it was literally the calm before the storm as he took he usually morning walk around the Brisbane city centre.

He said the normally bustling streets and sidewalks were deserted.

“The city was like a ghost town.”

Mr Wilson said he was among a rare few regular morning walkers who ventured out along the river and were amazed to have the empty pathways to themselves.

“Not a speeding scooter in sight.”

He said the coffee shops that chose to open were almost deserted.

“No long waits in 10-deep queues.”
