Work has begun on a new 5.3-hectare leisure destination on the Sunshine Coast.
Stockland General Manager Queensland Development David Laner said the first sod had been turned on the Aura Parklands, to be located in the future Aura City Centre, in Caloundra South. (See the flythrough below)
Mr Laner said the Parklands would include a swimming lagoon with lifeguards and water play areas, BBQ and picnic areas, event spaces, and a network of pathways, surrounded by the greenery of a Wallum forest zone and ripple lawn event space.
He said the area would also support trading at the future Aura Retail Town Centre, which adjoined the site to the south, with integrated designs creating a connection between the town centre and the parkland.
“Aura Parklands is expected to be complete by the end of 2026 and will form part of a larger 11.3-hectare recreational park, which is currently under planning.”
Mr Laner said Sunshine Coast Council would operate and maintain the lagoon and water play areas once it opened, with Mayor Rosanna Natoli on hand at the official sod turning this week.
“Infrastructure like Aura Parklands builds on our legacy of creating communities full of energy, soul and life. It’s great to celebrate this milestone with Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli and Council, and we look forward to seeing the community enjoy the parklands once works are complete.”
He said the swimming lagoon in the Parklands was designed to span approximately 2100 square metres of water surface area, with plans for accessible graded edges, stepped entry points, and a maximum depth of 1.8m.
