Air taxis are set to transform South-East Queensland’s airways, boosting emergency response times, regional and business connectivity and tourism opportunities.
The SEQ Council of Mayors have released a report outlining how electric aircraft could provide fast, reliable, low-emission travel between regions and cities.
With the population projected to reach six million by 2046, the report titled Advanced Air Mobility: New Opportunities for SEQ shows how Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) vehicles could be used.
It also said there was a potential $3.7 billion economic uplift and 4600 jobs to be had from AAM vehicles.
SEQ Council of Mayors Deputy Chair and Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said AAM offered a cleaner, faster and more efficient way to move people and services.
“This is a once-in-a generation opportunity for our region,” Cr Flannery said.
The report predicts regional communities could reach major hospitals in minutes, enabling faster transfers, rapid movement of clinicians and timely delivery of critical medical supplies.
It also says AAM vehicles could boost the region’s tourism economy by making iconic destinations faster and easier to reach.
The next phase will focus on planning infrastructure, integrating AAM into existing transport networks, and working with governments and industry to support the safe rollout of electric aviation as the technology evolves.
