Tickets for Powderfinger’s first national tour in 17 years will go on pre-sale from October 14, 2026 after the Brisbane-founded band announced 18 concerts in six cities next year.

General public tickets for Live 27 will go on sale on Monday, October 19, with the tour opening in Brisbane on September 3, 2027, before travelling to Cairns, Perth, Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne.

The reunion will feature all five band members – Bernard Fanning, Darren Middleton, Ian Haug, Jon Coghill and John Collins – who last performed together on their farewell tour in 2010.

Brisbane will host four concerts at the Brisbane Showgrounds, with another two performances at Cazalys Stadium in Cairns, the only regional Australian destination on the tour.

The band confirmed the long-awaited reunion after years of speculation and repeated suggestions that they return to the stage.

“We are absolutely ecstatic to be coming together to play again,” Powderfinger said in a statement on its website. “Over the years there have been tons of suggestions for us to go back on the road but, until now, it never felt quite right or lined up for all of us.

“We have always been so grateful for the continued support from our long-term fans and over the years we’ve picked up a lot of new ones who have never seen us play. So, it feels right to bring all of these people (including our kids who were too young to see us play) together for a special run of shows around the country next year.”

Powderfinger released seven studio albums, with hit songs including My Happiness, These Days, Sunsets, On My Mind, Burn Your Name and Pick You Up.

The band achieved five ARIA number one albums, won 18 ARIA Awards and three APRA Awards, and placed 22 singles in Triple J’s annual Hottest 100 countdowns.

Both My Happiness and These Days topped the Hottest 100, while three Powderfinger songs featured in the station’s 2025 countdown of the greatest Australian songs of all time.

Powderfinger announced their breakup in April 2010 after two decades together, embarking on the Sunsets Farewell tour, which attracted more than 300,000 fans. Their final concert was on November 13 that year.

The 2027 tour will use a travelling, stadium-sized big top, with standing and seated ticket options and food and drink facilities designed to create a festival atmosphere.

The temporary concert venue will be erected at central locations in each city, including Wellington Square in Perth, The Domain in Sydney, Ellis Park in Adelaide and Melbourne Park Oval.

Powderfinger will also curate a changing lineup of Australian support artists, with established and emerging performers joining the tour. The supporting acts are expected to be announced during AusMusic Month in November.

The band said the concerts would provide an opportunity to reconnect with audiences who had grown up with their music, as well as younger fans who had never seen them perform.

“People often tell us that our music is connected to their most treasured and joyous memories,” the statement said.

“We hope to spread a little more of that joy when we make our way around the country with some of Australia’s best established and upcoming talent, and to make some new memories for us all.”

The tour will also partner with Mission Australia to raise awareness and funds for people experiencing homelessness and related hardship.

The Queensland Government said it had worked with Tourism and Events Queensland to secure concerts in North Queensland.

Premier David Crisafulli said the Government had pursued the concerts as part of its major events strategy, while Tourism Minister Andrew Powell said negotiations to bring the tour to Cairns had been underway for several months.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner also welcomed the reunion of the band, which developed its following in Brisbane before achieving national success.

Powderfinger emerged from Brisbane’s live music scene to become one of Australia’s most successful rock groups.
