Aussie music posters from the 1960s to 1980s were as artistic as the bands they promoted, and now is your chance to catch these colourful moments in time at the Gold Coast Home of the Arts from Saturday June 7 until Sunday August 17.
In an age of analogue, one of the best ways to promote a band or music tour was via a music poster, which were often eye-catching experimental works of art.
Enjoy this trip: The art of music posters captures the spirit of the times in this exhibit which is drawn from the National Gallery’s expansive collection of Australian and international music posters.
Artist Victor Moscoso, whose work features in the free exhibit said he pushed the limits of art with his posters.
“The musicians were turning up their amplifiers to the point where they were blowing out your eardrums,” Mr Moscoso said.
“I did the equivalent with the eyeballs.”
It’s a journey back to the Summer of Love to a time when the music was funky, the art was kaleidoscopic and psychedelia was in full swing.
Enjoy this trip presents a nostalgic exploration of the times through art, graphic design, music, colour and typography, and was curated by Leanne Santoro.
Open from 10am-4pm daily. For more information visit the HOTA website.
