A new national day to support the Arts in Australia will be held in October.

AusArt Day, on October 23, will be a day for all Australians to show their support for artists and arts organisations by making a donation to support the creativity they love.

AusArt Day Ambassador and Creative Australia Chair Professor Wesley Enoch said more than 100 artists and arts organisations had already signed up to take part in the inaugural celebration.

Professor Enoch said Creative Australia was supporting AusArt Day by contributing $500,000 in microgrants upfront, alongside resources, workshops, and advertising materials to help participants prepare fundraising campaigns.

“From a DJ livestream to a First Nations choir and a coffee cabaret, participants are preparing innovative campaigns that will raise important funds and awareness of the contribution that arts and creativity make to our communities,” he said.

Professor Enoch said it was free for artists and organisations to register to take part AusArt Day, with participants able to choose their preferred fundraising platform, with options including the Australian Cultural Fund, which provided for tax deductible donations.

“AusArt Day is a chance for Australians to show their support by getting behind the musicians, painters, dancers, actors, singers, sculptors, writers and all the creative people who make our country so vibrant and fun to be a part of.”

He said a list of participating artists and arts organisations would be made available on Creative Australia’s website from early October.

Artists and organisations can also register via the website.
