The latest Australian-created Netflix feature film is now in production in Queensland.

Allen, a heart-warming tale of friendship and adventure, set against the backdrop of a Queensland coastal town, is Ludo Studio’s first live-action feature for the streaming giant and will be produced in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Netflix Vice President of Content APAC (ex-India) Minyoung Kim said the team at Ludo Studio, which also deliver animation sensation Bluey,  were among Australia’s most exceptional storytellers, injecting film with relatability and wit.

“We are delighted to create a film that the entire family can enjoy, and the Queensland coast provides the perfect, heartwarming backdrop for this tale,” Ms Kim said.

She said Allen would be released globally on Netflix and joined a growing slate of Australian films and shows including Boy Swallows Universe, Love Is In The Air and True Spirit among others.

Creator Daley Pearson (Talk to Me, The Strange Chores, Content), who co-wrote the script with Sophie Miller (Thou Shalt Not Steal), said Allen was really a story about love, family and all those big and small moments from childhood that ended up shaping who we are when we grow up.

“Getting the opportunity to make this story in this part of the world—in the town where I grew up in, inspired by the friends and family I grew up with—is a dream. We’re creating Allen for families to watch together,” Mr Pearson said.

State Arts Minister John-Paul Langbroek said Ludo Studio was a Queensland entrepreneurial success story.

“Filmed at Screen Queensland Studios in Brisbane, this Netflix production will share our state’s stories and showcase our beautiful Gold and Sunshine Coasts to the world,” Minister Langbroek said.
