La Boite Theatre’s 2026 season tackles some of the more complex issues facing the world today – power, politics, the environment, family, race, and community.

There is a contemporary take on Greek tale Antigone; the apocalyptic Eat Slay Zombie; a spaceship escaping Earth for Mars in Second Coming; and Korean drama Koreaboo, set in a convenience store.

La Boite Artistic Director and CEO Courtney Stewart said the aim was to have authentic conversations with their audiences in a way that “holds onto the humanity, heart, and humour of what’s going on in the world.

“If anything’s going to help us hold onto hope, to find the answers that we need to make meaningful change, we need to have that shared humanity and laughter to help us take in what’s happening…understand it, and then act on it,” Stewart said in a statement.

Stewart co-directs Antigone with acclaimed fight choreographer Nigel Poulton making his main stage debut.

The classic text has been adapted with a dynamic retelling of Sophocles’ tragic tale of protest and defiance with Maddison Burridge as the heroine who dares to stand up for what she believes in. From March 5-21.

In Eat Slay Zombie issues such as colonisation, community, and state occupation are addressed through First Nations voices with a story of friendship and found family. From May 14 to 30, 2026.

Second Coming is the third instalment in the three-part series that started with Pale Blue Dot and The Dead Devils of Cockle Creek. It follows geneticist Evie and her geologist husband Aiden as they attempt to set up a sanctuary on Mars in the face of the Earth’s environmental collapse. From August 6-22.

The season ends with Koreaboo in a search for family and identity that mirrors the experience of Australian performer Michelle Lim Davidson making her writing debut. From September 2-19.

La Boite is Australia’s oldest theatre company – 101 years old this year. For more information and to book tickets, click here.
