GOMA will open Friday nights from May to June 2026 for international artwork, curated music and cocktails and snacks.
GOMA Friday Nights: Presence is a cultured way to finish off the working week from May 1 to June 26 at 5.30-8.30pm.
Catch Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson’s exhibition Presence – a multi-sensory journey that surrounds you with light, colour, and movement.
His title work Presence 2026 is a vast sun that seems to pulse with energy. Other works include Riverbed 2014 – running water and a rocky landscape that you can walk on (wear comfortable shoes); and an all-white LEGO city built and rebuilt by visitors titled The cubic structural evolution project 2004.
QAGOMA Head of Public Engagement Tamsin Cull said GOMA Friday Nights was the perfect place to connect after work.
“We are excited to introduce an all-new experience to the Gallery with a Vinyl Listening Bar – GOMA’s take on the global listening bar tradition,” Ms Cull said.
“Experience moody lighting, Japanese-inspired cocktails and delicious snacks, and records played the way they were meant to be heard, with a different selector taking you somewhere new every Friday night.”
The nights will also include dancers from Brisbane’s freestyle community paying tribute to Eliasson’s early passion for breakdancing.
They will be joined by Brisbane DJs spinning sets inspired by Presence in the River Room Bar, and live sound responding to the artworks composed by award-winning percussionist Vanessa Tomlinson.
