Iconic Brisbane rock indie band The Go-Betweens will perform their seminal album 16 Lovers Lane at QPAC, along with guests from some of Brisbane’s most famous acts such as Regurgitator and Custard.

Lindy Morrison, Amanda Brown and John Willsteed will perform classic singles such as Streets of Your Town and Was There Anything I Could Do? on September 26.

They will be joined by a talented line-up of Brisbane musicians including Seja Vogal and Ben Ely from Regurgitator; and David McCormack from Custard, Patience Hodson from The Grates, and Eamon Sandwidth from The Chats.

The concert features the album in full, along with other well-known songs by The Go-Betweens.

QPAC chief executive Rachel Healy said the band had influenced many musicians across generations.

“Hugely successful and iconic, this band came from the Brisbane suburbs and has a special place in the hearts of Queenslanders, to the point that we’ve even named a Brisbane city bridge after them,” Ms Healy said.

“Celebrating Queensland artists and stories is at the heart of what we do at QPAC and it is especially fitting to present this concert in our 40th anniversary year.”

Formed in Brisbane in the late 1970s by Robert Forster and Grant McLennan, The Go-Betweens was considered Australia’s finest indie-rock band, with their signature rhythms, charming melodies, and poetic lyrics.

Grant McLennan died in 2006, and The Go-Betweens former frontman Robert Forster will not perform but is supportive of the concert.

16 Lovers Lane was the band’s sixth studio album and was released in 1988. It achieved critical acclaim and was listed at No.15 in Rolling Stone’s 200 Greatest Australian Albums of All Time.
