More than 80,000 pieces of music memorabilia is up for grabs as the complete archive collection of Glenn A Baker goes under the hammer next week.
The Australian journalist, commentator, author and broadcaster is well known for his vast encyclopaedic knowledge of rock music and has interviewed, managed and promoted some of the biggest names in music.
Mr Baker said the auction would feature more than 80,000 pieces from vinyl, to CDs, magazines and more.
“I started collecting records when I was about 11 years of age, and I remember I was living out in the country at the time and I used to get old jukebox singles. I knew that I was destined to be a collector for life at that time,” he said.
Mr Baker said LP records were at the core of the collection, with more than 50,000 of them, primarily representing rock’n’roll and popular music of the second half of the 20th century.
He said the archive needed someone who would both care for it and ensure that it would continue on intact.
“It deserves to be kept largely intact. It’s really important to me at this stage in my life for it to be maintained and continued on in the hands of somebody who actually cares about it. It’s a collection that deserves to be transformed into a museum,” Mr Baker said.
The collection is being actioned by Lloyds Auctions on Friday, August 30 from 7pm.
