Fans of legendary country artist Slim Dusty are being asked to vote for songs to be included on new albums to mark what would have been his 100th birthday.
EMI/Universal Music Australia and the Slim Dusty Estate announced today that a fan celebration called Slim Dusty 100 would be held next year.
Dusty died in 2003, aged 76. He recorded more than 1000 songs in a career that began in 1946 and produced more than 100 albums.
June next year will mark 100 years since the singer’s birth and EMI/Universal Music is inviting fans to vote for their 10 favourite Slim Dusty songs.
Voting is open from October 14 to November 15, 2026 at https://live.umusic.com/slimdusty100
The 100 most-voted songs will be compiled into a collection to be released on multi-vinyl, CD and digital formats.
Dusty was born in Kempsey, NSW, in 1927. He achieved 38 Golden Guitars, two ARIA Awards, induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1988 and an ARIA Special Achievement Award in 1996. He was appointed an MBE in 1970 and an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 1998.
His biggest hits include A Pub With No Beer, Duncan and Lights On The Hill.
A Pub With No Beer was a number one hit and the first Australian song to achieve Gold Record status in Australia.
“Slim’s contribution to Australian music and culture is immeasurable,” Universal said in a statement.
“Through his songs and storytelling, he captured the spirit of Australia – its people, places, humour, hardships and way of life. In doing so, he helped tell our story and shape our sense of who we are.”
Universal said the voting period was an opportunity for fans to celebrate and rediscover Dusty’s catalogue and for a new generation of listeners to discover his music.
In 1997, Dusty was voted one of Australia’s inaugural 100 National Living Treasures, followed by being named the inaugural Senior Australian of the Year in 1999.
In 2000, he performed Waltzing Matilda at the Sydney Olympic Games Closing Ceremony.
