Arguably one of the greatest tragic love stories of all time, Romeo and Juliet has been given a fresh, contemporary setting that feels relevant while acknowledging the past.
Director Pete Evans’ critically acclaimed Bell Shakespeare production has been hailed as raw, intense and intimate.
Instead of setting the play in a defined historical context, the production is stripped of elaborate costuming, and the design is contemporary at its core, with period features woven throughout.
For instance – letters, potions, and sword fights are in, but fancy dresses and tights are out.
It stars Madeline Li as Juliet and Ryan Hodson as Romeo. The two star-crossed lovers risk everything to be together, despite the violent feud between their families.
It returns to the Powerhouse on October 17 and 18, 2025.
Suitable for children aged 12+.
