Chris Hemsworth is among a star-studded cast which has descended on the Gold Coast to film a new Amazon MGM Studios movie.
The Aussie acting icon is being joined by Lily James, Michael Peña, Joe Cole, Simone Kessell, Robert John Burke and David Wenham in the submarine thriller Subversion.
Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney said Subversion was the latest in a steady slate of projects made in Queensland for Amazon MGM Studios.
Ms Feeney said the film, a tense cat-and-mouse game playing out on international waters written by Andrew Ferguson, directed by Patrick Vollrath (7500) and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers), was now shooting at Village Roadshow Studios.
“We are proud to continue our ongoing collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios which has recently included the productions Balls Up, The Bluff and Voltron.
“Subversion further cements the trust that has been established with our local crew base. We are pleased to welcome back executive producer E. Bennett Walsh with another complex action epic that will be shot between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.”
Ms Feeney said Subversion would benefit from Queensland’s growing expertise on high-end, highly technical action productions, as well as the water tank infrastructure at Village Roadshow Studios and the capabilities of the state’s “innovative virtual and post-production businesses”.
Producer di Bonaventura said Subversion was a high-stakes action thriller that needed scale and scope.
“Queensland was a natural fit because it offers incredible scenery, a great studio and a world class crew. A lot of the movie takes place on the water and Queensland has spectacular oceanscapes.”
Secured for the state through Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy, Arts Minister John-Paul Langbroek said more than 400 local cast and crew would be employed on this feature film, which would also contribute an estimated $63 million to the Queensland economy during production.
