Andrew Lloyd Webber’s mega-musical CATS is returning to Brisbane’s Lyric Theatre at QPAC in February as part of its 40th Anniversary Australian tour.
The smash hit production first debuted in 1995, sparking a revolutionary fusion of music, dance and verse.
Producer John Frost said Australia had an enduring love for CATS, and it was time to let the memory live again.
Based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cast and set to music by Lloyd Webber, CATS has captivated audiences in more than 50 countries since it opened in London in 1981, where it played for 21 record-breaking years.
The musical tells the story of the Jellicle cat tribe. On one special night of the year, all Jellicle cats meet at the Jellicle Ball where their wise leader Old Deuteronomy announces which of them will go up to “The Heaviside Layer” and be reborn into a new Jellicle life.
The timeless musical score includes the hit song Memory, which has been recorded by more than 150 artists including Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, Nicole Scherzinger, Johnny Mathis, Liberace, and Barry Manilow.
