The iconic house from the 1970s sitcom The Brady Bunch has been declared a Historic-Cultural Monument by the Los Angeles City Council.

The council voted unanimously last week to accept the recommendations of an LA Department of City Planning inquiry into the cultural value of the house.

That inquiry found the house “exemplifies significant contributions to the broad cultural, economic or social history of the nation, state, city, or community”.

The house was used as an external filming location for The Brady Bunch, which aired from 1969-1974, and the original cast re-created the interior sets of the show at the house as part of a reality program in 2018-19.

“More than 50 years have passed since The Brady Bunch ended its initial primetime run in 1974.” the city planning report said.

“The original television series only aired for five years and was never a ratings hit during its original airing. But since it went into regular syndication in 1975, it has become a popular syndicated staple, especially among children and teenage viewers.”

The show also led to the spin-offs Brady Brides (1981), A Very Brady Christmas (1988), the serial drama The Bradys (1990), The Brady Bunch Movie (1995), A Very Brady Sequel (1996) and The Brady Bunch in the White House (2002).

A Very Brady Renovation (2019) highlighted the 2018 remodelling of the site.

The Brady Bunch was one of the first family programs to deal with step-parenting and merged families.

Parents Mike and Carol Brady were played by Robert Reed and Florence Henderson, who have both passed away, as has Ann B Davis who played housekeeper Alice.

The children from the show – Greg (Barry Williams), Peter (Christopher Knight), Bobby (Mike Lookinland), Marcia (Maureen McCormick), Jan (Eve Plumb), and Cindy (Susan Olsen) regularly reunite for public appearances.

Williams, 71, has been starring in the 2026 Australian version of I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here. McCormick was a contestant on the same show in 2015.

The Brady house is located on Dilling Street in Studio City, LA.
