A dozen state-owned petrol stations will be built by a re-elected Queensland Labor Government.

Labor leader Steven Miles said, in addition, if re-elected, the government would ensure all petrol stations could only raise the price of fuel once a day and that daily increase would be capped at 5 cents a litre.

Mr Miles said the 12 publicly owned fuel stations would deliver greater competition.

He said stations would operate on a cost-recovery basis and sell petrol and diesel alongside electric vehicle fast chargers.

“The 12 initial sites will be determined by government, based on where competition is most needed across the state,” he said.

Mr Miles said an incoming Labor Government would also use planning call-in powers and access to publicly-owned land to provide a more level playing field for independents and small retailers.
