If you’re looking for the best Brisbane has to offer in arts and crafts, the Mayo Arts Festival in Brisbane on Saturday (July 27) is your answer.
The free event is a multi-arts celebration showcasing Brisbane artists and artisans, along with rides, activities, food trucks, market stalls and performances.
The festival is named in honour of former St Margaret’s student Daphne Mayo MBE (1908) who was a leading Australian artist – most prominently known for the sculptured tympanum above the entrance to Brisbane City Hall.
The festival celebrates artistic endeavour in all its forms, with a particular focus on three-dimensional art.
This year the festival plays host to one of Australia’s foremost contemporary artists Lindy Lee AO. Her works can be found at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney and the National Gallery in Canberra. Tickets to hear Lee speak can be purchased here.
Visitors can shop at more than 30 artisan market stalls selling quality handcrafted gifts, jewellery, small sculpture, ceramics, fashion and homewares.
Rides include a rock-climbing wall, super flyer chairs, laser skirmish, and an animal farm from 11am to 3pm. Admission to the rides can be purchased here or on the day.
There will also be a steady stream of student exhibitions and performances in art, dance, drama and music. Enter the raffle to win more than $14,000 in prizes.
The festival will run from 10am-5pm at St Margaret’s Anglican School, Ascot.
