Arts enthusiasts are being encouraged to find their fit at this year’s Brisbane Festival, which will be headlined by a show from fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier.
Releasing the full program today, Artistic Director Louise Bezzina said the “Find your Fit” theme for the annual showcase from August 30 to September 21, was inspired by show’s like Gaultier’s Fashion Freak Show.
Ms Bezzina said the Fashion Freak Show featured 50 years of pop culture through the eyes of fashion’s “enfant terrible” and will be the centrepiece of this year’s Festival.
According to promotional material, the show, which will only to be seen in Brisbane during its Australian season, features actors, dancers, and circus artists taking to the stage and playing “outlandish, passionate, larger-than-life, rude, sexy, sassy creatures and personalities”.
“As part of this unmissable event Jean Paul Gaultier has designed hundreds of new exclusive outfits which will feature alongside some of his most iconic creations on the Brisbane runway,” it states.
Gaultier said: “I want to show difference. For there is beauty to be found everywhere, it all depends on how one chooses to look at it. I’ve always loved freaks, weirdos, agitators, the mixing of different aesthetics, the unexpected encounters. I would like every member of the audience to leave in a happier mood than when they arrived.”
