Queensland’s agricultural shows will receive $2.5 million in State Government funding in 2026-27 to help cover operating costs and maintain showground infrastructure.
This represents a $500,000 increase on the previous funding. The Queensland Government said this was the first permanent increase in nearly 20 years.
The funds will be delivered through the Show Societies Grants Program and support 127 annual agricultural shows and the Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Societies.
The grants will help show societies meet operating expenses and maintain and improve facilities used for agricultural shows.
Queensland Minister for Volunteers Ann Leahy said agricultural shows played an important role in regional communities.
“From the smallest country show to some of our state’s largest events, agricultural shows are woven into the fabric of Queensland communities and celebrate the industries that help drive our state,” Ms Leahy said.
Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Societies President David Wilson said the funding would provide greater certainty for show organisers.
“Agricultural shows are run by dedicated committees and volunteers who work tirelessly to bring their communities together and celebrate our agricultural industries,” Mr Wilson said.
“This funding provides certainty for show societies and helps them maintain the facilities and infrastructure needed to continue delivering successful agricultural shows for their communities.”
