Coles supermarkets are spicing up their hot roast chicken in response to more families eating at home.
The supermarket chain said its latest research showed 59 percent of customers were cutting back on takeaway and eating out spending.
Coles announced today that it is partnering with Old El Paso to put a “Mexican-inspired twist” on its popular chickens.
It said the pre-cooked chickens were the second most popular product across Coles stores and Old El Paso was the most popular brand in Coles’ Mexican range.
Coles Product Developer Suzanne De Monte said the new flavour gave customers a fresh take on a much-loved dinner staple.
“We know Hot Roast Chickens are already a go-to for busy nights, so teaming up with Old El Paso is a fun way to give customers a new, easy and affordable way to enjoy a dinner favourite,” she said.
General Mills Marketing Director, ANZ, Surini Perera said with 72 percent of Australians already had Mexican at home as a mid-week meal.
The new hot roast chook flavour will be available in all Coles stores and via Uber Eats for a limited four-month run from November 4, 2026 or while stocks last.
It is priced at $14.50, or $13.50 for the first two weeks.
