A low-impact walking sports program designed for older adults is being run by the Redland City Council from Friday, October 30, 2026.

The Redland City Council’s Sport and Talk program will run for six weeks and aims to improve physical health, boost mental wellbeing, and build social connections.

Acting Mayor Julie Talty said the program would return after a successful pilot in April this year.

The latest round of Sport and Talk will be delivered in collaboration with RedCity Roar Basketball Association, Redlands Softball Association, Football Queensland and new partner Capalaba Bulldogs Football Club.

The Council’s Sport and Recreation portfolio representative Councillor Jason Colley said the program provided an introduction to three walking sports, which are ideal for older adults seeking safe and gentle exercise.

“What is just as important, however, is the social aspect and the initial program was very successful in helping residents connect with others in the community and have some fun,” Cr Colley said.

“I encourage our older residents to take advantage of this opportunity, whether they are interested in reconnecting with a sport they love or learning new skills.”

  • Come & Try Day – Friday 30 October, 9.30am to 11.30am at PCYC Capalaba
