One of Hollywood’s most versatile character actors – Tim Curry – has died after a decade of fighting illness.
Curry, 80, was known for his iconic performance as Dr Frank-N-Furter in the original stage production of The Rocky Horror Show from 1973 to 1975.
He reprised the role in cult 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
He will also be remembered as the creepy Pennywise in the 1990s It series, and the hotel manager in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
Born Timothy James Curry in Cheshire, England, on April 19, 1946. He began his professional career in the West End production of Hair in 1968.
He earned Laurence Olivier Award nominations for The Pirates of Penzance and Spamalot, as well as three Tony Award nominations for Amadeus, My Favorite Year and Spamalot.
His film credits include Annie, Legend, Clue, The Hunt for Red October, The Three Musketeers, Congo, Muppet Treasure Island, Charlie’s Angels, Scary Movie 2 and Kinsey.
His animated roles included Captain Hook in Peter Pan & the Pirates, for which he won a Daytime Emmy, Hexxus in FernGully: The Last Rainforest, Sir Nigel Thornberry in The Wild Thornberrys and Chancellor Palpatine/Darth Sidious in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Alongside his acting career, he released three music albums – Read My Lips in 1978, Fearless in 1979 and Simplicity in 1981. His memoir, Vagabond, was published in 2025.
In 2012, Curry suffered a major stoke that required brain surgery and subsequent use of a wheelchair.
