Actress Shelley Fabares, known for starring in three Elvis Presley movies and a series of television shows, has died at age 82.
In the 1960s, Fabares was a regular on television series One Day at a Time and The Donna Reed Show.
She was back on prime time in 1989 as Christine Armstrong in the series Coach, which ran for eight years and earned her two Emmy Award nominations.
Fabares starred with Elvis Presley in Girl Happy (1965), Spinout (1966) and Clambake (1967).
She was Peter Noone’s love interest in the Herman’s Hermits film Hold On.
Fabares also found fame as a singer with her rendition of Johnny Angel reaching number one the Billboard charts in 1962.
She had minor follow-up hits with Johnny Loves Me (charted at number 21) and The Things We Did Last Summer (number 46).
In a statement, Fabares’s family said the actress was a “source of love, strength, laughter and comfort”.
“She was a devoted wife, cherished stepmother, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, family member and loyal friend whose warmth, generosity, humor and grace made an enduring difference in the lives of everyone who knew her,” the family said.
“She had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcomed, valued and cared for.”
Fabares was married to actor Mike Farrell for more than 40 years. Her family said she died after a short illness.
