Hit musical Mamma Mia will bring the Greek islands to the Gold Coast shores when it premieres at The Star from September 4-20, 2026.
The feel-good musical features 22 of ABBA’s greatest hits like Dancing Queen, SOS, and Mamma Mia.
Set on a sun-soaked Greek island, the story follows a mother, her daughter, and three potential dads.
The Very Popular Theatre Company production will be performed by an all-Australian Cast of 31 performers, including five Gold Coast and Brisbane cast members in principal roles.
Leading the cast is Erin Cornell (from Wicked, and CATS) as Donna Sheridan (played by Meryl Streep in the movie).
She will be joined by Brisbane’s Chloe Rose Taylor (Beauty and the Beast UK Tour, Cinderella UK Tour) as Tanya; and Gold Coaster Jo-Anne Jackson (Titanique, Elvis: A Musical Revolution) as Rosie.
The Gold Coast’s Emily Monsma (Wicked, Hairspray) will star as Donna’s daughter Sophie Sheridan (played by Amanda Seyfried in the movie).
“I’m super excited to be back on the Gold Coast performing in Mamma Mia!,” Monsma said in a statement.
“It’s a show I hold very dear to my heart. I remember growing up and singing all the ABBA songs with my grandma and sister, and seeing an ABBA tribute show at The Star when I was 11.”
Mamma Mia! has captivated over 70 million people across the globe since its 1999 debut in London’s West End, with the 2008 movie adaptation becoming one of the highest grossing movie musicals of all time.
