The Queensland Government has announced the completion of around $100 million worth of upgrades at four state schools.
The completed projects represent 44 new classrooms, two learning centres and multiple specialist learning spaces.
The projects include:
- A $35.9 million two-storey learning centre at Ripley Valley State Secondary College in Ipswich, including 32 classrooms.
- A $32.5 million investment at Indooroopilly State School for a three-storey administration and learning centre, a multi-storey car park and an upgraded instrumental music block.
- An $8.2 million multi-purpose hall extension at Kirwan State School, providing areas for sport, performances, and school events.
- A $19.1 million multi-purpose hall extension at Mackay North State High School, including two drama rooms, two music rooms, and a recording studio.
The State’s $23.1 billion Education Budget includes infrastructure investment in 22 new schools.
Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said this investment would provide students with the best possible learning environments.
“Students from Brisbane, Mackay and Townsville are now benefitting from modern classrooms and learning centres,” Mr Langbroek said.
“Our students deserve classrooms that motivate and inspire learning, as well as outstanding performing arts hubs and sports halls.”
Mackay North State High School Principal Michelle Pole said the school’s new music and drama building had transformed performing arts education.
“Offering music and drama subjects in the new hall, fosters a seamless transition from the classroom to the stage,” Ms Pole said.
“This creates opportunities for students to develop their talents and pursue their passion,”
Kirwan State School Principal John Kratzmann said students and staff were excited by their new hall additions.
“It’s a great boost for school performing arts, sport and events, and will be a fantastic asset for the local community as well,” he said.
“This is more than just a building. It represents a place to gather, perform and celebrate and is an investment into the future of our students.”
