Brisbane city visitors will have access to an expanded range of market offerings from September 2026.
The Brisbane City Markets, which operate every Wednesday, will undergo a major expansion, lifting the number of vendors from 60 to 80 vendors.
Goodwill Projects, which operates the markets, will also launch Friday night markets, with the first to be held on September 26, 2026, from 4pm to 9pm.
At least two of these evening market events will happen this year, with four scheduled in 2027.
The expanded Wednesday markets will introduce cooking demonstrations, cultural flavour months, guided tours and public play areas with giant games and board game tables.
Brisbane City Markets operate every Wednesday from 8am to 5pm in Reddacliff Place at the top of Queen Street Mall.
Goodwill Projects has operated Brisbane City Markets since 2019 and will continue to operate them for at least the next three years.
Brisbane City Council is hoping the refreshed market scene, which expanded into the Queen Street Mall in 2024, will bring more people to the city centre, including at night.
According to BCC figures, more than 39 million movements have been recorded across the Queen Street Mall in 2026.
This peaked in April with an average of 226,000 movements and more than 284,000 movements on April 17 alone – the final Friday of school holidays.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the expanded markets would give people even more reasons to spend time in the heart of the city.
“This expansion is part of the biggest transformation of our CBD in decades,” he said.
“As major public and private investment reshapes the city centre, we’re creating even more reasons for people to visit Queen Street Mall, day and night.”
Director of Goodwill Projects Mark Power said the markets showcased the best of Brisbane’s local artisans with handmade goods, bespoke designs, creative art and freshest locally grown produce.
“The expansion of a signature night market offering compliments the top of Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall and provides a unique offering for couples, families and visitors to explore the city – particularly as we build momentum toward the 2032 Brisbane Games,” he said.
