The Rolling Stones have again proven their resilience with their new studio album landing at number two on the Australian charts this week.
Foreign Tongues includes guest appearances by Sir Paul McCartney and The Cure’s Robert Smith.
The Stones, formed in 1962, have released 30 studio albums and dozens of live and compilation albums.
Before the ARIA charts launched in 1988, they topped the Australian chart with Out Of Our Heads (1965), Sticky Fingers (1971), Exile On Main Street (1972), Goats Head Soup (1973), It’s Only Rock ‘N Roll (1974), Black and Blue (1976), Some Girls (1978), Emotional Rescue (1980) and Tattoo You (1981).
Since 1988, they have scored six top five albums with the most recent Hackney Diamonds hitting number three in 2023.
The Stones were held out of the number one position this week by Olivia Rodrigo who reclaimed the top spot on the ARIA Albums Chart with You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love.
This marks Rodrigo’s fourth non-consecutive week at number one.
The late Michael Jackson, fresh off the back of a hugely successful biopic movie and the MJ The Musical Australian run, continues to dominate the On Replay charts.
Thriller is the number one album and Billie Jean the number one single.
The death of Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler last week prompted Total Eclipse Of The Heart to enter the On Replay Singles Chart at number 13. The single spent six weeks at number one on the ARIA Singles Chart in 1983.
