Springwood, in Logan City south of Brisbane, has a new purpose-built $8.1 million ambulance station.
The replacement station is capable of housing seven ambulances and two patient transport vehicles, and features modern rest and study rooms, a multi-function conference room for training and meetings, and upgraded staff amenities.
It is home to 22 paramedics, two Patient Transport Officers, and an Officer-in-Charge who support the Queensland Ambulance Service’s response to more than 1.3 million incidents across the state annually.
The new station is part of the Queensland Government’s $1 billion funding for the Ambulance Service.
Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Tim Nicholls said the new station gave paramedics the facilities, equipment and resources needed to deliver world-class care.
“We’ve also welcomed an additional 373 frontline Queensland Ambulance Service staff ahead of winter, ensuring Queenslanders can access the emergency care they need, when and where they need it,” Mr Nicholls said in a statement.
QAS Assistant Commissioner Metro South Region Chris Draper said local officers did a “tremendous job” of providing care to Springwood and surrounding communities.
“While the existing facility has served the community well since 1978, this replacement station is now necessary to meet the growing demand for services,” Mr Draper said.
