Queensland rail has announced more track closures – this time on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines between June 27 and July 19, 2026.
The closures, largely during the school holidays, will allow the following works to be carried out:
- Stabling yard and station upgrades to support Cross River Rail
- Installing a new digital signalling system as part of the European Train Control System works between Beenleigh and Varsity Lakes
- Early works to duplicate tracks, upgrade stations and remove level crossings as part of the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project
- Platform construction, signalling and track works for the Loganlea Station Relocation project.
Acting Head of Translink Dean Helm said the works were part of building a better rail network for now and into the future.
“Significant works like these need to take place in the rail corridor and so can only be carried out safely and efficiently while trains are not running,” he said.
“If you are travelling during this period – whether that’s to work, an appointment or a major event – I encourage you to plan ahead, consider your transport options, and allow plenty of travel time.”
Mr Helm said rail replacement bus services would be available during the closures.
Cross River Rail Delivery Authority CEO Graeme Newton said some of the works were part of the Delivery Authority’s wider scope beyond the new underground tunnels and stations, which made up just one part of the broader rail transformation underway.
“Critical works will be underway across the network, including commissioning key signalling assets at Clapham Yard, construction of Moorooka station, and services and overhead line equipment installation in the Yeerongpilly-Moorooka corridor.
“On the Gold Coast, work will also be underway at Merrimac station.”
The works will also mean minor impacts on other lines.
