Our Lady’s College in the Brisbane suburb of Annerley is the latest Catholic school to embrace a co-ed offering.
The school will be accepting expressions of interest soon for enrolments of male students in Year 7 from 2030.
The move is in line with other new Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) schools offering co-ed campuses.
The most recent co-ed school to open is Holy Spirit College at Fitzgibbon in 2022, which reached its full Year 7 intake in 2026, and is preparing for its first cohort to graduate in 2027.
BCE will also open a new proposed co-ed secondary school at Windsor in 2029, on the site of the former St Mary of the Cross Primary School.
BCE Acting Executive Director Ross Tarlington said enrolment demand at Fitzgibbon had exceeded expectations.
“We are seeing similar enthusiasm for our proposed new secondary school at Windsor, with many families keen to enrol their children, and we anticipate similar interest from Annerley,” Mr Tarlington said.
“This level of interest demonstrates the strong demand for affordable, high-quality Catholic education in Brisbane.
“Our announcement reflects that demand and our commitment to maintaining a strong and sustainable Catholic education presence in inner-city Brisbane into the future.”
Other BCE secondary school projects recently include Sophia College, Plainland and Sam Damiano College, Yarrabilba.
Demographic changes to BCE schools in the inner-south of Brisbane have also led to the decision to close Mary Immaculate Primary School in Annerley and St Brendan’s Primary School in Moorooka at the end of 2026.
The combined enrolments at the schools have decreased by one-third in the last five years.
Each school now has fewer than 75 students, reflecting changing demand in the local area.
As part of the closures, families will be offered enrolment at other BCE schools including nearby at St Sebastian’s Catholic Primary School, Yeronga and St Pius X Catholic Primary School, Salisbury.
“BCE is working with families from these schools to ensure they can continue their Catholic schooling in the area,” Mr Tarlington said.
“The wellbeing, learning, and care for our students and staff are our priority as we move through these next few months.”
