Construction has begun on Amazon’s new Queensland fulfilment centre in Greater Flagstone, south-west of Brisbane.

The $750 million facility will support around 2000 jobs during construction and create 1000 jobs once operational.

It is the result of a partnership between Amazon, Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) and Trade Investment Queensland (TIQ).

The facility covers more than 141,000 square metres of land within the Greater Flagstone Logistics Estate.

The site will operate 24/7, using “advanced logistics and world class technologies for optimal efficiency”.

The new facility is in addition to Amazon’s Lytton fulfilment centre, which houses more than half a million items including health, household, personal care and electronics products.

Amazon Australia’s Director of Operations Wayne Angus said the Flagstone investment demonstrated Amazon’s commitment to Queensland customers and its confidence in the state’s growing economy.

“People are at the heart of our operations, and by combining innovative robotics technology with skilled local talent in this state-of-the-art site, we’re building a workplace where people and technology work hand in hand to deliver for our customers,” Mr Angus said.

Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie said EDQ had approved the application in record time – just 35 business days.

“It’s the fastest approval Amazon has received for a development of this scale and complexity in Australia to date,” he said.

The Greater Flagstone Logistics Estate is located within the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area (PDA) and will be the site of more than 50,000 homes for up to 138,000 Queenslanders once completed.
