Dawson’s Creek star James Van Der Beek loses cancer battle

American actor James Van Der Beek has died after a three-year battle with colorectal cancer.

The actor’s family announced his passing today.

In a post on social media they said:

“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace.

There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity, and the sacredness of time. Those days will come.

For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.”

Van Der Beek, 52, was best know for his portrayal of Dawson Leery in the series Dawson’s Creek that ran from 1998 to 2003.

He also played a fictionalised version of himself in the sitcom Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 (2012–2013).

Other roles included FBI agent Elijah Mundo on CSI: Cyber (2015–2016), and the first season of the FX drama Pose (2018).

Van Der Beek’s film credits included Varsity Blues (1998), Texas Rangers (2001), The Rules of Attraction (2002), Formosa Betrayed (2009), Labor Day (2013) and Bad Hair (2020).
