Returning to school today holds special excitement for the students of St Bonaventure College, which is opening its doors for the first time at Flagstone.
The College, south-west of Brisbane, is Brisbane Catholic Education’s newest school, welcoming 160 students from Prep to Year 3, and Year 7.
To make the occasion extra special, St Bonaventure’s 54 Prep students were treated to an exclusive sneak peek of their state-of-the-art College yesterday to give them a little extra confidence ahead of their first day.
St Bonaventure’s College Foundation Principal Anthony Elmore took the Preps on a much-anticipated tour of their College’s completed Junior School precinct, including sporting fields and adventure playground.
St Bonaventure’s College Parent Lyndal Eccleston said her child Billy was excited for his first day of school.
“We are talking about school all the time and Billy is so excited,” she said.
“If he sees a show or reads a book that says anything about school, he often asks if he will be doing those things when he goes to school.
“The fact the school is brand new is also exciting for our family.
“Knowing that these Preps will be the first ones to attend from beginning to end makes their first day extra special.”
Mr Elmore said the opening represented a new chapter in education for the Flagstone community.
“This College will help meet the growing educational needs of the Flagstone community for years to come,” he said.
The grounds are set on 7.9 hectares with the capacity to expand to more than 1800 students.
Mr Elmore said the school’s expansive fields encouraged teamwork, with an adventure playground, and a purpose-built junior school equipped with cutting-edge technology that supports innovative teaching and learning.
“The College also proudly opens its doors with a world-class library equipped with state-of-the-art technology, a double sized fully covered sports court designed for year-round athletic excellence, and a modern middle school that sets new standards in innovative learning,” he said.
The St Bonaventure’s College logo features the Franciscan Tau cross.
This symbol reflects penance, forgiveness, and mercy, sitting atop the natural creation “symbolising St Francis’ love for all creation and our commitment to caring for our common home”.
The circular shape showcases the eternal connection of family and community, and the mountains, creek, and sun represent the traditional lands of Mununjali Country of the Yugambeh language people. The three knots are a cornerstone of the Franciscan Order and represent families, students, and staff within the school.
The school’s motto, ‘to know and to love,’ further encapsulates the College’s mission to foster a deep pursuit of knowledge and a genuine love for all of God’s creations.
Interviews for 2027 enrolments are already underway, and applications for 2028 and 2029 are now open.
