The push in on to include netball at the Brisbane 2032 Games.

More than 60,000 sporting fans have so far signed an online pledge to support netball being included in the Brisbane 2032 Games.

The push is being led by Aussie netball icon and Chair of Netball Australia Liz Ellis, with a strategic partnership formed with Pharmacy Guild Australia (PGA) to promote the cause.

“Netball is selling out stadiums in Australia and around the world, our national team is one of the world’s best, and netball is the most popular sport for women and girls in this country,” Ms Ellis said.

“The chance for netball to play in the Olympic Games in 2032 is a real possibility, and we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to come together and make this dream a reality.”

PGA President Professor Trent Twomey said the partnership reflected the mission of the PGA to create healthier Australian communities.

“For us, netball means community. It brings people together, strengthens bonds, creates healthy communities and inspires our young people,” Professor Twomey said.

“And just like netball is played in every city and town across Australia, every community is supported and served by local pharmacies. That’s why this bid is so important – it’s about more than sport. It also promotes women’s and girls’ health, being active and off the screens and forming lifelong relationships.

“Getting netball included in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics isn’t just about winning. Netball showcases to the world the Australian spirit of inclusion, of having a go, and of having fun.”

The online pledge, which at the time of publication had 62,564 supporters, can be found at olympics.netball.com.au.
