Sporting teams which grace Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium in future years will have their colours put up in lights.

Brisbane City Council plans to illuminate Caxton Street, the traditional gateway to the iconic stadium, with a new creative lighting installation.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the project featured three strands of programmable, colour-changing festoon lights suspended over the Petrie Terrace street, bringing fresh energy to the precinct.

Lord Mayor Schrinner said the installation would be able to change to match team colours, turning Caxton Street into a celebration of every game.

He said installation works were set to begin this month, with the project expected to be completed before the end of the year.

“Once complete, the new creative lighting will help support local businesses, attract more visitors and add another layer of sparkle to Caxton Street’s already electric nightlife.”

Lord Mayor Schrinner said the lighting upgrade would will further cement the precinct’s reputation as one of Brisbane’s must-visit destinations.

“Brisbane is not only Australia’s lifestyle capital, it’s also our sporting capital, and after dual-code premierships, there’s never been a better time to show it.

“As our teams take over the nation, Caxton Street will soon shine in their colours, putting Brisbane passion on full display.”

Caxton Street Development Association President Sarosh Mehta said the installation was the result of months of hard work by Council’s Places and Assets and Design Brisbane teams.

“Caxton Street, as the gateway to Suncorp Stadium, is a place where people come together to celebrate, thus this colour-changing lighting will make moments even more special,” Mr Mehta said.
